Weight Lifting Teams
In an effort to increase team unity and build competitiveness, sophomores and juniors were placed into lifting teams this week. Freshmen above a 50% weight room attendance will be placed in teams after spring break. The five freshmen who played with the sophomore team were the only freshmen placed into teams to create an even number. This is an annual tradition that began in 2007. Players will stay on the same team all the way through the fall season. Each team is named after either a Big 10 or Pac-10 team, and they will compete against each other with scoring based on various criteria such as weight room attendance, grades, punctuality and behavior in the classroom, and strength. The objectives for the lifting teams are: 1) create team unity; 2) build competitiveness; 3) allow coaches the opportunity to monitor players' grades and classroom behavior; and 4) have fun. Any junior or sophomore who falls below a 60% attendance will be removed from their team and placed on a team together. At the end of summer camp, the Big 10 champion will compete versus the Pac-10 champion in the Rose Bowl. The winner of the Rose Bowl will finish #1 overall and have their name placed on a plaque that will hang in the weight room. Best of luck to all teams as the competition begins this week. Beckman Rated 5-Star Kicker
|
After multiple successful kicking showcases, junior Mike Beckman received a 5-star rating by Kohl's Kicking and Punting Camps. A 5-star rating is the highest rating a recruit can receive through the kicking service. Kohl's, who ranked Mike as the fifth overall recruit in the Class of 2011, had this to say, 'Michael won the National Scholarship camp's FG contest last July (300 competitors). He then won the Midwest Showcase Camp this winter (100 competitors). He hit a 54 yard FG off the ground to win his group. Michael has the ability to focus and compete which will make him successful in a college setting. His KO's are better and do need to continue to improve to over take any of the 4 spots in front of him. On FG he can compete with anyone.' |

Record Setting Year in Academics
This year proved to be record-setting in the classroom as well with 11 varsity players being named Academic All-Conference. Congratulations to John Androus, Mike Beckman, Forrest Ericksen, Brandon Grant, Scott Hennelly, Ben Hohenstatt, Wills Massie, Brandon Mruk, John Pfeiffer, Josh Rigali, and Andrew Tubek for receiving this high academic honor.
Five Players Named All-Conference
Five players, John Androus, Chris Djus, Wills Massie, Mike Beckman, and Andrew Tubek were named to the North Suburban All-Conference Team. Bill Brinser and John Pfeiffer were also selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference. This is Androus's second time being named to the NSC All-Conference Team. He finished his career as the program's all-time leading tackler with 152 career tackles. Although seeing limited playing time his junior season, Chris Djus proved to be one of the most reliable and versatile offensive linemen this year, playing both tackle and guard. Senior Wills Massie, who also served as Team Captain, was third on the team in tackles, second in T.F.L.'s with 5, and led the defense with 3 fumble recoveries. Mike Beckman became only the second junior to be named All-Conference (Sean Hertz in '05). In addition to setting 8 program records in kicking, he is now also the all-time kicking leader in Lake County with 13 field goals. Finally, Andrew Tubek ended up as the third-leading rusher in Lake County with 1321 yards. Additionally, Tubek set 11 program records that includes rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing TD's.
